Get in Costume for Call and Response!

Many of you have heard about the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art‘s upcoming exhibition “Call and Response: Africa to America, The Art of Nick Cave and Phyllis Galembo.”  What you really need to know is Art Mag is hosting a COSTUME CONTEST!  And the prizes are well worth creating your best homage to the work of these two phenomenal artists.

Cave and Galembo have never exhibited together before, despite their hand-in-hand perfection.  Leave it to HICA Director and Senior Curator Mark Sloan to have the divine inspiration of pairing these two artists’ work in an exhibit so highly anticipated it has garnered not one but two magazine covers this month!

In their own moment of divine inspiration, Art Mag and Charleston Magazine are teaming up to co-sponsor the opening on Thursday, May 27 from 5-7 pm.  The event is free and open to the public.  Social Restaurant and Wine Bar will be pouring wine and Djole Dance and Drum Company will be performing.   So put it in your calendars, and get your best festive attire ready!

Prizes:

Artist & Craftsman $25 Gift Certificate

Dinner for Two at Fish for Mercy of the Chef

Lava Salon $50 Guest Certificate

Futurist Membership at Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art ($125 value!)

Large Online Ad from Art Mag

Charleston Fashion Week package from Charleston Magazine

I highly suggest going to the Halsey website and viewing the slideshows of Cave & Galembo’s work for inspiration.  They’ve made the Call, now show us your best Response!

Thank you to our generous sponsors and donors!
